Maggie is a pretty awesome high schooler who is interning with me this year. Can you tell how fun she is? Maggie’s intern responsibilities include:
- Elevating the awesomeness of Jessica Wright Photography exponentially with her quick wit and easy smile.
- Doing zany things to entertain toddlers during photo sessions (she is especially good at this).
- Learning about lighting and manual metering (12:00 sunlight= racoon eyes. There, now haven’t you learned something too?)
- Learning the ins & outs of editing (White vignettes= bad. Natural editing=good.)
- Realistically laughing at my attempts to make awesome jokes. (She’s getting better at this.)

I asked Maggie to answer a few questions so you all could get to know her better. Here’s what she had to say…
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Well, my name is Maggie Sharp, I am fifteen years old, and was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I love beauty, and have always been the artistic type. I enjoy writing short stories, arts and crafts, swimming, hiking and biking (even though I’m not to good at it), and maybe a little horse-back riding whenever I get the chance, also photography. But of course I can’t just do these things, I also have school. I’m in 10th grade, and I am home schooled! I do all the same homework as any other kid, and I don’t do school in my PJ’s! Most of the time… So anyway, I’ve wanted to do something with photography for a while now, and am honored to have Jessica Wright as my teacher. She does an amazing job, and it’s what she loves to do. And I am fascinated. Not just by the camera, but by Jessica herself.
2. Why do you like photography?
The way a camera captures a scene is a beautiful thing. It’s something that you can carry with you, and will last for always. It’s really a memory splattered down onto a piece of paper, making a wonderful way for something you liked or even loved last forever. And as I said earlier, I love beauty. And photography is beauty. So, there you are.
3. What do you want to learn during your internship?
I want to learn the true art of photography. Not just the stuff every one sees in the picture itself, but the things that make the picture happen. The lighting, angle, emotion, the photographer him or herself, the connection that is made with whoever or whatever in the photograph. Just everything. At least that’s what I want to learn, and I will try with every bit of my being to make sure I do. And with the help of the my amazing teacher, Jessica, I will eventually rule the world of photography with my awesomeness.
4. What is your favorite type of photography and why?
I like portraits because in just a few shots you can capture a persons true personality. Even at young ages, when all they can do is run around in circles. But I have more experience with portraits, so I’m not for sure. But I like all photography really.
5. How would you describe yourself?
I’m normally a very happy person, and I laugh a lot. I’m pretty sarcastic, and I love people. I’m incredibly talented at tripping over anything in front of me, beside me, and even behind me. And I’m great at being awkward, which is a talent I try to hide most of the time.
6. If you could have any superhero power, which one would you choose and why?
I’d have to say… super awesome invisibility skills. Pranks unimaginable to man could happen right there.
7. What is your all time favorite book? movie?
My favorite book, and movie would probably be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, book four. Yes, it’s true I’m a hard core HP dork. I just love all the emotion J.K Rowling puts into the tale. There is excitement and drama that captivates my attention, making me dwell inside the book as if I was one of the characters in the story.
8. What is your favorite meal?
The best topic yet. FOOD. My all time favorite meal is fettuccine Alfredo. What can I say? I like cheese.
9. What is your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is most definitely the day my youngest brother, Brody, was born into the world. My amazing grandmother and myself snuck to the room where my mom was and peeped are heads inside, making the doctor really mad. Later we got to go see the mystery baby. I poked my head over the railing of my moms bed and saw him laying there. I immediately started to cry… he was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen in my life.
10. Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
After I graduate from high school I plan to move for a year across the great sea to the place where all your wildest dreams come true… Manchester, England.
